Chris’s journey into the world of health insurance was far from straightforward. With over a decade spent managing hotels, Chris was no stranger to customer service. However, it was during his time in hotel management, where he was responsible for explaining health insurance options to his staff, that he realized the complexity and confusion surrounding healthcare plans.


“I had no idea what a deductible was, what co-pays meant, or how any of it worked,” Chris recalls with a laugh. But what began as a daunting task soon sparked a deeper interest. As the 2008 financial crisis hit, Chris found himself burned out from the hospitality industry. With time on his hands and a desire for change, he stumbled upon an opportunity with HealthMarkets Insurance. What he didn’t expect was how deeply he would connect with the work.

A Passion for Helping Others

“I realized that health insurance is something that’s really confusing to people, and it was confusing to me too before I had to take all the licensing exams,” Chris explains. “But I also saw how it could really help people if they’re on the right plan.”


This realization became the cornerstone of Chris’s career. Over the past 13 years, he has helped countless individuals and families navigate the often-overwhelming world of health insurance. From young families just starting out, to older couples exploring Medicare options, Chris is there every step of the way.

HealthMarkets has an office located in Cleveland, TN. Chris operates primarily in the Cleveland, Chattanooga, and Knoxville areas, though he is licensed to work in multiple states across the country. “What sets me apart is my focus. I don’t deal with the financial planning side of things – my sole focus is on health insurance and Medicare. I can literally help people from the day they’re born until the day they die, ensuring they have the coverage they need with little to no change relationally,” Chris shares.

Chris’s commitment to his clients extends beyond the office. As a resident of Cleveland, TN since 2019, he is deeply involved in the community. Whether it’s through his work at his local church, his brand new involvement with Rotary Club, or his membership in the local Cleveland BNI Chapter, Cultivating Professional Referrals, Chris is dedicated to giving back.


“I’ve been really fortunate to see how getting on the right health insurance plan not only helps with healthcare but can also improve overall quality of life,” says Chris. “I’ve seen clients go from struggling to thriving, simply because they were on the wrong plan before.”

Navigating Challenges with Compassion

One of the most comprehensive challenges Chris has faced in life as a father is his oldest son’s diagnosis with a connective tissue disorder called Marfan Syndrome. This experience has not only deepened Chris’s understanding and compassion for his clients, but also acts as a learning moment in times where his clients may be facing the same sort of medical problems.


“If I didn’t sell insurance, the worry about how to get things covered would be incredibly frustrating,” Chris admits. “This personal experience has made me more empathetic and driven to help others find the coverage they need, especially when faced with serious health challenges.”

A Lifelong Learner and Emerging Enthusiast

Outside of work, Chris is a devoted husband and father of three children, aged eight, six, and five. His family life is a busy one, filled with activities like board games, which he and his wife enjoy immensely, and new ventures into outdoor sports like kayaking and paddleboarding. Chris also harbors a passion for photography, particularly the art of developing photos in a dark room – a hobby he hopes to indulge in more as time allows.

A Funny Twist to Life’s Milestones

Chris’s sense of humor and unique outlook on life are evident in his stories. One such story involves his wedding day in Gatlinburg, TN. Unbeknownst to him and his wife, the town hosts a Christmas parade on St. Patrick's Day, the day they chose for their wedding. “We ended up running into the middle of the parade in our wedding attire and got our picture taken with Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus,” Chris laughs. “It’s one of those memories that you just can’t plan for, but it made our day even more special.”

What’s Next?

Looking ahead, Chris is excited to continue serving his community, expanding his reach through various networking groups, and growing his presence on social media to better connect with potential clients. He’s a firm believer in the power of word-of-mouth referrals and the importance of trust in the client-broker relationship.


“My biggest piece of advice when choosing an insurance broker is to pick someone you can relate to,” says Chris. “Insurance is complicated, and you need someone who will take the time to explain things in a way that makes sense to you.”
